Learner Workshops
Grade 10 & 11
Life Skills workshop
Following numerous requests from schools throughout
South Africa, Rape Wise has written researched and
compiled a life skills workshop for grade
10 & 11 learners.
This year we introduced an audio visual presentation
that has a far greater impact on learners.
The
workshop was successfully presented, as a pilot
project, at numerous schools throughout the country
e.g.: St Andrew’s school for girls, St
Dominic’s school, Peconwood college, Abbott’s
college JHB, Redhill School, St Henry’s Marist
college, Roedean school for girls, Uplands
College (Mpumalanga), Southdowns College (PTA)
Some
of the comments from participants where as follows:
“Best
talk I have ever been in… I was not bored for 1
minute.”
(Bianca 16 years old)
“We
think we know everything, but there is so much we
don’t actually know. A brilliant workshop!”
(Taryn
16 years old)
“This
course was a real eye opener and an indication of how
little I actually know about rape and the trauma
associated with it. It is an empowering course and I
feel
that
it should be a necessity in every school across the
country. A job well done Doc!”
(Mankgatho
Age 16)
“Our
talk today was very insightful and unbelievably
interesting and I believe it could be very helpful for
our futures. John is an amazing speaker that
captivated his audience with ease.”
(Maxine Age: 16)
The workshop today was
excellent. It kept me interested and even the visuals
made me understand the reality of certain situations
much more. I learnt a lot of things that I did not
know about certain problems we face today and even how
to deal with them in the right way!
(Thirusha 16 Uplands College)
I really found the Rape Wise
course worthwhile. It was eye-opening and informative.
I can now make educated decisions about major aspects
of my life!
(Brandon 16 Uplands College)
Very informative – scary videos,
a real eye opener. Really vital information and I
think through this knowledge it has saved one of our
lives if not more. I will think twice about trying
drugs.
(Emma 16 Uplands College)
Feedback from the Grade 10 and 11 learners at
Pecanwood College:
“We were
privileged to take part in one of the most insightful
talks we will hear in our school career. No one who
took part would have left the venue without gaining
some sort of knowledge. It was brilliant and a very
good guideline for us teenagers entering the real
world.” – Anonymous
“I enjoyed
the workshop due to the way Dr. Buswell spoke. He
spoke with familiarity and always used experiences
from his past, bringing to light the reality.” –
Daniel M
“The
Rapewise workshop was an informational, life changing
moment. I feel that all teenagers should attend
because it could help others or one’s life. Learning
about all the different types of rape cases is
sickening but educational” – Gavin M.
“The
Rapewise talk was extremely insightful. The way Dr.
Buswell involved the group in his lecture by using
examples from investigations he had worked on was
incredible.” - Rowan
