Schools are increasingly faced with new challenges and staffs are often ill equipped to deal with some of the following issues:

• Drugs and alcohol

• Reporting sexual abuse

• Dealing with physical abuse

• Trauma

• BBM and online predators

• Pornographic downloads from your school’s network

• Teen pregnancy

Please note that due to the practical nature of this workshop, numbers will be limited and bookings will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Section A

The first section of this workshop will assist your management and learner support staff to develop protocol and procedures for the above problems. Delegates will be informed about NEW LEGISLATION and your schools responsibility and compliance with the following legislation:

• Criminal procedures act

• Children’s act

• Schools amendment act

• Child justice act

Section B 

Deals with setting up an effective trauma de briefing team and will enable your school to effectively identify, understand and deal with incidents of trauma. 

Case studies

• Death of a learner at school

• Attempted suicide

• Bus accident – sports team

• Abduction of a learner from school

Delegates will cover the following topics:

• Types of trauma

• Identifying the symptoms

• The brains response to trauma

• Counselling model

• Practical trauma de briefing training

Aims & Objectives

• To provide each delegate with a base protocol and procedure  manual

• Each school will receive  a compliance check sheet for self analysis

• After completing the workshop delegates will have the ability to perform a trauma debriefing as well as develop and manage a school base trauma support team
